Tourist Visa

A tourist visa is granted to foreign nationals whose primary purpose of visiting India is for leisure activities such as sightseeing, recreation, meeting friends or relatives, or attending short-term yoga programs. It strictly prohibits participation in any other activities, including employment or voluntary work. Tourist visas are generally issued with a validity of one year and allow multiple entries; however, for certain nationalities, the default option may be a multiple-entry visa valid for up to six months. These visas are non-extendable, non-convertible, and are effective from the date of issue, regardless of the applicant’s travel plans. Requesting a shorter validity period does not reduce the applicable visa fee. Those intending to engage in voluntary work must apply for an employment visa.
