Student Visa

A Student Visa is granted to genuine students who wish to pursue academic studies at recognized educational institutions in India. It is issued for the duration of the academic course or up to a maximum of five years, whichever is shorter. The visa is provided based on confirmed admission letters from the respective institutions, clearly mentioning the applicant’s acceptance and the duration of the program. This visa enables students to stay in India legally while they complete their studies.

Follow the below steps in order to apply

  1. Create an account (Register yourself) on Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. Click Here to register.
  2. Fill the Govt of India's Online Visa Application Form. Click Here to access the Online Visa Application Portal.
  3. Select the REGULAR/PAPER VISA APPLICATION option. 
  4. Ensure that you select the appropriate option for the dropdown "Indian Mission/Office" as per your correct jurisdiction. To know your jurisdiction, refer to the "Jurisdiction" section.
  5. Print and sign your application.  
  6. Book your appointment online at Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. You can choose a convenient date and time to visit the Alankit ICAC for your application submission. Click Here to book your appointment online.  
  7. Ensure that you have your passport, photographs and all other supporting documents, exactly as per the "Documents Checklist" section. 
  8. Visit the Alankit ICAC, as per your jurisdiction. The address and location of the ICAC will be clearly mentioned in the appontment letter. 
  9. Kindly ensure you reach the ICAC 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. 
  10. Submit your application and deposit your fees at Alankit ICAC. You can check the fee for this application under the "Fee Details" section. 
  11. Enroll for Biometrics at Alankit ICAC (if required)
  12. Your application submission process is now complete! You can avail our Courier service to get your passport delivered to your doorstep!

General Requirement:

  1. You need to fill out the online visa application form through the official government portal, then download, print, and sign it. Ensure all details are correct as no manual changes are allowed. Click here for application form.
  2. Attach one recent passport-size photograph (2x2 inches) meeting official specifications.
  3. Provide your current passport, which should have at least six months of validity and two blank pages, along with a photocopy of the bio page.
  4. If you selected "Journalist" as your occupation in the form, you can only apply for a Journalist Visa.
  5. If submitting in person, you need to schedule an appointment letter before visiting the application centre. Appointments are not needed if sending your application by post.
  6. Prepare your payment method (EFTPOS, MasterCard, Visa, cash, as specified at ICAC website).

Additional Documents (Based on Conditions)

  1. You must provide an admission letter from the educational institution in India, confirming your admission and the course duration.
  2. Show proof of financial means by submitting your latest bank statement. If your parents are funding your education, submit their bank statement along
  3. If applying with a foreign passport, include proof of your current visa status in Australia (such as VEVO, Visa Grant Notice, or visa sticker).
  4. If you were previously a national of certain countries (Pakistan, Afghanistan, DPRK, Iran, China, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan), or if you are not a permanent resident of Australia, you must complete and submit FORM D.
  5. If you were previously an Indian citizen, submit proof of renunciation of Indian citizenship, which may include a cancelled Indian passport, a renunciation certificate, or FORM XXII along with relevant documents.
  6. If your appearance or name differs between your Indian and current passport, submit FORM J, and if needed, a name change certificate or statutory declaration.

Additional Documents for A Minor (child under 18 years)

  • You need to submit a copy of the childs birth certificate.
  • You should include copies of both parents passports (photo and signature pages).
  • Make sure both parents sign the visa application form, or you can provide a no objection letter signed by both parents.
  • If only one parent or guardian is applying, you should submit supporting documents such as custody papers, a death certificate of the other parent, or proof of single parent status.

Specific Nationality Requirements

  • If you hold dual nationality with Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka, submit both passports. The visa will be issued on your home country's passport.
  • If you no longer hold nationality of these countries, provide a statutory declaration confirming this.
  • Pakistan nationals visiting India must submit multiple sets of the application depending on the number of cities they intend to visit (4 for one city, 5 for two cities, 6 for three cities).
  • If you hold a New Zealand passport and are a permanent resident of Australia, submit a copy of your Medicare card.
  • Czech Republic passport holders must show they have lived in Australia for at least one year, hold a passport with at least one-year validity, and provide medical insurance for their entire stay in India.
  • You should be aware that Embassy/Mission may request additional documents or information to complete the application process.
