Medical Visa

Applicants planning to visit India for medical treatment should apply for a Medical Visa (MV), which is granted based on preliminary medical advice from their home country or country of residence recommending specialized treatment in India. A Medical Attendant Visa (MX) can also be issued for individuals accompanying the patient. The Medical Visa is typically valid for up to one year or the duration of the treatment, whichever is shorter. Additionally, all individuals entering India on a Medical Visa must register with the concerned Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival.

Follow the below steps in order to apply

  1. Create an account (Register yourself) on Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. Click Here to register.
  2. Fill the Govt of India's Online Visa Application Form. Click Here to access the Online Visa Application Portal.
  3. Select the REGULAR/PAPER VISA APPLICATION option. 
  4. Ensure that you select the appropriate option for the dropdown "Indian Mission/Office" as per your correct jurisdiction. To know your jurisdiction, refer to the "Jurisdiction" section.
  5. Print and sign your application.  
  6. Book your appointment online at Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. You can choose a convenient date and time to visit the Alankit ICAC for your application submission. Click Here to book your appointment online.  
  7. Ensure that you have your passport, photographs and all other supporting documents, exactly as per the "Documents Checklist" section. 
  8. Visit the Alankit ICAC, as per your jurisdiction. The address and location of the ICAC will be clearly mentioned in the appontment letter. 
  9. Kindly ensure you reach the ICAC 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. 
  10. Submit your application and deposit your fees at Alankit ICAC. You can check the fee for this application under the "Fee Details" section. 
  11. Enroll for Biometrics at Alankit ICAC (if required)
  12. Your application submission process is now complete! You can avail our Courier service to get your passport delivered to your doorstep!

Document Checklist

  1. You need to complete and print the online visa application form. Please ensure all details are accurate, and avoid making any corrections by hand after printing.
  2. Please provide one recent passport-size photograph (2 inch x 2 inch) meeting the specified guidelines.
  3. You are required to submit your original passport, which must have at least six months of validity from the date of application and at least two blank pages. A photocopy of the passport's bio page is also needed.
  4. If you have selected "Journalist" as your occupation on the form, please note that only a Journalist Visa can be applied for, regardless of your travel purpose.
  5. If you are visiting the application centre in person, please ensure you have scheduled an appointment in advance. This is not required for applications sent by post or courier.
  6. You may make the payment using acceptable methods such as credit/debit card or cash as advised at ICAC website.

Additional Documents (Based on Your Situation)

  1. If you are applying for a Medical Visa, please provide a medical advice certificate from your country of residence recommending specialized treatment in India.
  2. Please be informed that visas for commissioning surrogacy are not issued.
  3. If you are applying with a non-Australian passport, you must submit proof of your current visa status in Australia (such as VEVO, visa grant notice, or visa sticker). Dual nationals should also submit a copy of their Australian passport.
  4. If you are a national or ex-national of Pakistan, Afghanistan, or DPRK, or if you hold certain other nationalities, you are kindly requested to complete Form D.
  5. If you were previously an Indian citizen, please provide proof of renunciation of your Indian citizenship, such as a copy of the cancelled Indian passport, a copy of your foreign citizenship certificate, and additional forms as required, including Form XXII and Form J, if applicable.
  6. If your name differs between your Indian and current passport, please submit a name change certificate or a statutory declaration attested by a Justice of Peace or Notary. NSW residents are required to have documents attested by a Notary Public only.
  7. If your Indian passport is lost, you need to submit a statutory declaration explaining the circumstances, along with your citizenship certificate and Form XXII.

Additional Documents for Minors (Under 18 Years)

  • Please provide a copy of the minor's birth certificate.
  • Copies of both parents' passports (photo and signature pages) are required.
  • Both parents need to sign the visa application form, or you may provide a letter of consent signed by both.
  • In the case of a single parent or guardian, please submit appropriate supporting documents, such as custody papers or a death certificate.

Documents for Specific Nationalities

  • If you hold dual nationality with Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka, both passports must be submitted, and the visa will be issued on your Pakistani, Bangladeshi, or Sri Lankan passport.
  • If you are an ex-national of these countries and do not hold dual nationality, please provide a statutory declaration stating this.
  • Pakistani nationals must submit multiple copies of the application depending on the number of cities they intend to visit in India.
  • If you hold a New Zealand passport and are a permanent resident of Australia, please provide a copy of your Medicare card.
  • If you are a Czech Republic passport holder, you may apply only if you have been in Australia for at least one year, hold a passport valid for one year, and provide medical insurance for your entire stay.
  • Please note that the Embassy/Mission may request additional documents or information if needed to process your application.
