Registration of Birth of a Minor Child

If a child is born outside India to Indian nationals, it is mandatory to register the birth with the concerned Indian Mission or Post. This registration helps establish the child’s Indian nationality and can be done either along with the application for a fresh passport for the minor or separately under miscellaneous consular services. Parents or legal guardians are eligible to apply for the registration of birth. Before submitting the application, they are advised to carefully review the provisions of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, and the rules framed under it to ensure eligibility and compliance with all necessary legal requirements.
