Conference Visa

A Conference Visa is issued to foreign nationals whose primary purpose of visiting India is to attend a conference, seminar, or workshop organized by the Government of India, State Governments, Union Territories, public sector undertakings, recognized educational institutions, or international bodies like the United Nations and its specialized agencies. Applicants must present an official invitation from the event organizers. For events organized by NGOs, additional approvals from the relevant Nodal or Line Ministry of the Central or State Government are required, along with the invitation letter. Moreover, prior clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs is mandatory for participants from specific countries, including Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, stateless persons, and those of Pakistani origin, as well as for attendees who intend to visit protected or restricted areas in India.

Follow the below steps in order to apply

  1. Create an account (Register yourself) on Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. Click Here to register.
  2. Fill the Govt of India's Online Visa Application Form. Click Here to access the Online Visa Application Portal.
  3. Select the REGULAR/PAPER VISA APPLICATION option. 
  4. Ensure that you select the appropriate option for the dropdown "Indian Mission/Office" as per your correct jurisdiction. To know your jurisdiction, refer to the "Jurisdiction" section.
  5. Print and sign your application.  
  6. Book your appointment online at Alankit Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. You can choose a convenient date and time to visit the Alankit ICAC for your application submission. Click Here to book your appointment online.  
  7. Ensure that you have your passport, photographs and all other supporting documents, exactly as per the "Documents Checklist" section. 
  8. Visit the Alankit ICAC, as per your jurisdiction. The address and location of the ICAC will be clearly mentioned in the appontment letter. 
  9. Kindly ensure you reach the ICAC 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. 
  10. Submit your application and deposit your fees at Alankit ICAC. You can check the fee for this application under the "Fee Details" section. 
  11. Enroll for Biometrics at Alankit ICAC (if required)
  12. Your application submission process is now complete! You can avail our Courier service to get your passport delivered to your doorstep!

Document Checklist

  1. You are kindly requested to complete the online visa application form through the official government portal, then download, print, and sign it. Click here for application form.
  2. You are advised to ensure the printed form has no handwritten corrections.
  3. You are required to submit one recent colour photograph (2"x2") as per ICAO specifications.
  4. You are requested to present your original passport with at least six months of validity from the date of application, along with two blank pages.
  5. You are also requested to include a photocopy of the passport’s bio page.
  6. If your occupation in the application form is mentioned as 'Journalist,' you are kindly advised to apply for a Journalist Visa only.
  7. You are requested to schedule an appointment before submitting your application in person.
  8. You may make the payment using acceptable methods such as credit/debit card or cash as advised at ICAC website

Additional Documents Based on Specific Conditions

  1. If you are attending a company conference, planning meet, or strategy meet, you are kindly advised to apply for a Business Visa.
  2. You are requested to provide a letter of invitation from the conference organizer in India.
  3. You are also requested to include a letter of nomination from your organization in Australia.
  4. If you are a national or dual national of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, or a stateless person, you are kindly required to obtain clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs in India.
  5. If attending a conference organized by an NGO, you are required to submit clearance from the Nodal or Line Ministry of the Central or State Government in India.
  6. If applying on a foreign (non-Australian) passport, you are kindly requested to submit valid proof of your visa status in Australia (such as VEVO, Visa Grant Notice, or visa sticker).
  7. If holding dual nationality, such as UK and Australia, you are requested to provide a copy of the Australian passport’s photo page.
  8. You are requested to complete FORM-D if you are currently or were previously a national of Pakistan, Afghanistan, DPRK, Iran, China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan, or if you are not a permanent resident in Australia.
  9. If you were previously an Indian citizen, you are kindly requested to provide proof of renunciation of Indian citizenship along with supporting documents such as cancelled Indian passport, citizenship certificate, or relevant forms (Form XXII, Form J if appearance differs).
  10. If your Indian passport is not in your possession, you are requested to submit a statutory declaration with supporting documents explaining the reason for non-possession.

Specific Nationality Criteria

  1. If you hold dual nationality with Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka, you are kindly requested to submit both passports.
  2. If you no longer hold nationality of Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka, you are requested to provide a statutory declaration confirming the same.
  3. If you are a Pakistani national visiting multiple cities in India, you are kindly requested to submit multiple sets of your application (four sets for one city, five for two cities, six for three cities).
  4. If you hold a New Zealand passport and are a permanent resident of Australia, you are kindly requested to include a copy of your Medicare card.
  5. If you are a citizen of the Czech Republic, you are kindly requested to provide proof of at least one year’s residence in Australia, ensure your passport has at least one year’s validity, and include medical insurance for your intended stay in India.
  6. You may be requested to provide additional documents or information if required by the Embassy/Mission.
